Sunday Morning Swords: 8 January 2017

Sunday Morning Swords: 8 January 2017

#AGloriousNewDawnEdition

Good morning!

Here's our organizational thread for #SundayAMSwords. All are welcome regardless of familiarity with the game! Comment below if you're interested in playing this morning and mention if you're comfortable being an Overplayer and whether or not you have play Swords before.

When we get an Overplayer and three or four Rogue Players, those players will run off and start their hangout. For now, let's focus on getting everyone into a group. We'll probably wait until 9:30 EST to start the last group. If you can't make that, check back in a few hours. I hear rumors of other games firing up later in the day for those who wake at a more civilized time. If you don't see one, feel free to fire on up yourself.

Use the hashtag #SundayAMSwords should you desire to chat about your game on the social medias. And bring your breakfast or brunch. Adventurers need their sustenance! And coffee.

P.S. Got some tips on how to do this and links to useful files here: http://www.worldswithoutmaster.com/blog/2014/7/14/sunday-morning-swords

A slouched, hairy beast lurches and groans as it makes its way to our fair city to topple the monastery and take what it likes of the elderly and children to feed its foul appetites. Who will take up their blade (bow, book of hexes) to stop the beast in its tracks?

Bagel, light creamcheese and a twist of pepper.
Coffee, questionable left-over eggnog.

So, I have run Swords a little bit. I love it, but I have a query which I don't think I have a great answer for:

I think players are not used to interrupting the Overplayer in RPG's. There have been times when I am literally a beat away from killing a character (Which in SWM, you don't do without the Rogue's permission) and no one has interrupted me!

1. As an overplayer, how do you keep bringing the storm past such a point? Any tips or tricks for keeping the storm coming and/or signaling to the rogues that perhaps maybe now would be an ok/preferred time to take the narration away?

2. What is a good ritual for polite interruption we could use on Google Hangouts... there's no physical dice to pick up.

City of Fire and Coin, the larp

City of Fire and Coin, the larp
I don't know how many of you know this, but the thrilling starter adventure for SWM is also a larp! It uses Kat Jones and Evan Torner's Parlor Sandbox system and was first run with Epi and Emily Care Boss at Intercon in 2013. Myself and tom Fendt helped Evan and Kat run it once more in 2014, I've linked what few pictures we took of everyone's amazing costumes below.

I was thinking about how much fun this was again recently, since we ran it 3 years ago this month.

The celebrations are over, the new year has crawled from the carcass of the last, and tyrants are in want of a slaying.

I shall return to #SundayAMSwords this weekend.
