Title

Tones are difficult. There is something ineffable about their choice, the way they position the fiction, the way they orient the players’ imagination. They are the seed crystals of the players’ words, the heroes’ actions, the story’s motion.

Tones must be broad. Broad enough to contain multitudes. Broad enough that the dice do not simply decree the next moment of the tale. Broad enough that every player may find their own vision reflected in their meanings, hear how their own voice could sing in that tone.

Tones must be focused. Focused enough to drive the game where it must go. Focused enough that no tone might ever be confused for another of its ilk. Focused enough that a player is never lost, always drawn by the clarion call of the perfect tone.

Tones are impossible ... until they are obvious.
