So! This weekend, I'm planning on putting together a boxed set for Swords Without Master, so that I have a one-stop "pick up and take to wherever" instant Swords game! (This site: http://www.templatemaker.nl/ will be incredibly valuable.) Ultimate objective: something portable that lets me pop it open and start running Swords under any circumstance!
Here's what I'm planning so far:
• The main box will be a "Match Box" from that page, only much larger than most matchboxes, depending on the size of a couple components below...
• There'll be a card box with small-size eidolons/simulacra. These will mostly be Magic cards (because I have a few random packs of those), small-size pictures printed out, and some evocative scraps from literature. (Suggestions are more than welcome!)
• There'll also be some postcard-sized eidolons/simulacra, mostly for the Overplayer to use to begin play.
• Two totally awesome dice. I want to find some sweet Q-Workshop style dice in a local shop, but if I must, I'll order online. It's just pretty steep ($7 for shipping!). I've already isolated a few Q-Workshop sets that would work awesomely: Dragons (ESPECIALLY SO LOOK AT THESE http://q-workshop.com/Dragons ), Runic, and Classic. I may, in fact, just shell out the shipping money to get the Dragons dice, because they're basically perfect.
• Glum and Jovial cards printed out
• A trifold of the Phase/Threads/Tones handout, although I'm thinking maybe I should just print it out on the back of the box or the back of the drawer or something. Save space!
• Rogue sheets
• A bunch of Ritual of the Neophyte cards
• Motif slips (each has room for three motifs)
• Mystery/Moral slips (each has room for a single Mystery/Moral)
So yeah! Maybe I'll even put some sample Feats Heroic on the back of the box or something. Lots of whitespace I can use!
I love having a print shop nearby. I can probably get this all done for under $15, unless I order the dice direct from Q-Workshop (and have to deal with shipping). Mainly, I'll be figuring out how big my boxes need to be, and seeing how small I can make this. The only components I'll be relying on the players to have will be pencils. Everyone's got pencils, right?
If you've got ideas for Eidolons/Simulacra I can use, they're welcome! Also, brainstorming how I'll decorate the main box. I'm thinking really minimalist, just using the monochrome black sword-and-skull. Possibly finding a good font for the title.
