Let's say that I was looking for a good place to store threads online. And let's say that this should be a place where everyone can upload or record their own threads if they wish to. What would such a place look like to you? Have you seen such a place?

Asking for a friend.

  1. Isn't GoogleDrive basically this? Or is your friend after something more like a website or forum?

  2. Also curious, for a friend, of course.

  3. Honestly, if it is mainly intended as a functional resource, and you don't need to strictly keep track of the ownership of each thread contribution, a public Google Sheet is probably one of your best options. At the very least it would be easy to convert into another format if need be.

  4. I'm afraid you folks might be right about this Google Docs business. It certainly can handle it. I'm not sure what features I think would be important, so perhaps we should start there.

What would you like to see in an online library of threads?

  5. Commentary and side discussions - pointing out the contributions that were obviously strong, subtly important, things that missed the mark but were still interesting as tangents.

Barebones tagging of topics to help when the discussion dances around but never actually hits keywords.

A summary of links that got posted in the conversation.

...I like the idea and it kind of hovers between medium, Pinterest, g-docs, and scrivener, and it reminds me of "archive this thread" services for rapidly expiring sites like -chans.

Alternate suggestion that requires a bit more work: a minimal wiki.

  6. Tagging would be great, or some kind of cross-referencing so we could see all the threads from game X together, but then look at all the threads involving Whales. Commenting would be nice but maybe not that useful, IMO.

  7. Feature request: Notifications when new content is entered. Commenting could be done elsewhere (here) I think.
